Die Boyle-Kurzgeschichte »Greasy
Lake« aus dem gleichnamigen Sammelband wurde bereits zweimal
auf hohem Niveau verfilmt. Die auf dieser Seite vorgestellte Fassung von Jordan Blum stammt aus dem Jahre 1985. Sie entstand im Rahmen von Jordan Blums Filmstudium.
In der Ohio University
wurde sein Kurzfilm »Greasy
Lake« erstmals aufgeführt.
Danach lief er noch auf einigen wenigen Filmfestivals. Weil
es einer der ersten Filme von Jordan Blum war, hat er für
den Regisseur noch heute einen ganz besonderen Stellenwert.
Auf Anfrage teilte Jordan Blum uns mit: »It was one of my
first films and holds a special place in my heart. I was really
attracted to the themes of masculinity and how the story deals
with them. Especially the idea of the narrator being forced
to see his future in the form of the characters that he encounters
at the lake. I grew up with a lot these types of kids and by
doing this film I tried to really understand their mentality
and what drove them. The idea of feeling both trapped and ultimately
free by the confines of middle class suburbia was topic that
I had been very interested in exploring from the very start.
Most of all these kids were fakers and there is something fascinating
in being (violently) forced to face what you believe yourself
to actually be.«
